Centre For Wildlife Studies

The Centre for Wildlife Studies is an internationally recognized centre-of-excellence in the arenas of wildlife research, conservation, policy and education. Our mission is to conserve wildlife and wildlands. We have worked extensively in the areas of conflict mitigation, education, healthcare, agriculture, finance and alternative livelihoods, and have provided support to families living in and around wildlife reserves. We have played a catalytic role in supporting local communities in optimising use of government-sponsored voluntary resettlement and other social welfare programs. Our Wild Seve program has assisted in filing over 31,000 claims, with over 14,000 families receiving approximately 1.5 million USD in compensation from the government. These initiatives are implemented in collaboration with a network of dedicated local partners who engage with government officials, opinion makers and social leaders in several places across India. Our conservation education program Wild Shaale has been implemented in 1,128 schools for children aged 10-13 years around eight wildlife reserves and have reached over 60,000 children till date. Our public health and safety program Wild Surakshe has been training and generating awareness reading human-animal conflict among more than 33,000 rural community members, forest departments, forestry colleges, veterinary officers and veterinary colleges living in and around wild reserves across 7 States of the Western and Eastern Ghats, through carefully curated workshops.
